New to Crew?
This event opens the competitive portion of our season and is an excellent way to meet other rowing parents while cheering on the athletes. There will be plenty of downtime to socialize and help prepare the team chuckwagon for our upcoming season.
Families:
Bring the whole family as you join us to watch the scrimmage somewhere near 289 Channel Drive on Davis Islands. We’ll set up to view the event along the channel around 7:00am, and we’ll have coffee and donuts.
Bring foldable chairs, and for new parents, this is a great chance to meet everyone- we will spend lots of time together this year!
The team's Chuckwagon trailer will be on site, and we often use the time between races to clean it out and get it ready for the upcoming regattas.
Athletes:
Arrival: Please arrive at our normal practice location (the Tampa Prep bay) by 6 AM, as racing starts at 7 AM.
Attire: Please wear a uni or, if you don't have one, a red Tampa Prep shirt. If you don't have a uni make sure you are wearing spandex and a hat.
What to bring: Plenty of water/ gatorade. Food and snacks will be provided.
What if I am not racing? Some of you will not be racing, but you should still be there to support your team!
Where is the race? Around Harbor Island (please see course map).
Where should parents watch? Parents are encouraged to watch by 289 Channel Drive on Davis Island. Bring your own foldable chairs!
Departure: All athletes should expect a 12:30 dismissal, barring significant delays to race time.

On Saturday, September 19, the Tampa Prep Rowing Club will get its first taste of fall racing, as we take part in the annual Boathouse Scrimmage. This is a fun, local race, and is designed to test our endurance and cohesion.
Like any fall race, there will be chaos, and your collective response to this chaos will determine your boats' fate. If you respond to chaos by letting it in (to your brain, and, by extension, your boat) your crew will become slower, but if you respond to chaos by channeling it; if you respond with organized, focused aggression, you will have success. This philosophy holds true in most places and situations, but it is especially true on the water.
